The whole body can also use the tongue to control the computer

For the unfortunate people who have crooked or broken the spine, the tongue may be their only remaining controllable organ. With this fact in mind, Georgian engineers have developed the Tongue Drive System, a wireless, wearable system that uses the tongue to operate a computer-controlled wheelchair.

The previous version of TDS had a headset and a magnet mounted on the tongue. However, changing the headset means that the entire system has to be adjusted. They have re-invented the sensors in the mouth to increase stability and comfort, based on no perceived discomfort.

"Because this device has to adapt to the shape of the oral cavity so as to be interlocked with the teeth, it can block external interference."

This new TDS can sense the movement of the four corners of the tongue through the sensor. The relative position of the tongue magnet is determined from the output of the sensor, and then the user's real-time command is deciphered through other special applications equipped with an iPod or iPhone, and transmitted wirelessly. This data can drive electric wheelchairs. There is a miniature lithium battery inside to provide electricity, waterproof insulation.
