Steel drums are mainly used for the storage and transportation of petrochemical products and other closed containers, and are made of steel plates. Usually, there are two holes in the top of the closed steel drum, a large hole with a diameter of 60 mm, called the injection port; another hole with a diameter of 27 mm is called a vent hole. The purpose of the injection port is generally known to be the passage of liquid or liquid. However, there are many people who do not know the function of vents, and some people never use it. This is not correct. In fact, it is very important. Some people have caused an accident but do not know the reason.
When loading steel drums, they are generally not filled and can only be loaded to 80% to 90% of their capacity, which means that there should be some space left. The gas space in the barrel changes constantly during loading and unloading. When pouring, the oil level in the barrel gradually decreases, the gas space gradually increases, and negative pressure is formed in the barrel. This may cause the pressure of the steel barrel to be deformed and the air flows back from the injection hole to the barrel. The oil produced has the opposite countercurrent strong friction and is prone to static electricity causing fire or explosion. When the oil is loaded, the oil level will gradually rise, the gas space will gradually decrease, and the gas pressure in the barrel will increase, which may cause the steel drum to burst and leak. Therefore, when filling and pouring oil, the vent must be opened.
However, due to temperature changes, the gas space in the barrel will also change. As the temperature rises during the day, the oil in the barrel expands and the gas pressure in the barrel increases. As the temperature falls at night, the volume of oil in the barrel will decrease, creating a negative pressure. In this way, as in the case of loading and unloading of oil as described above, pressure deformation or bursting occurs.
To maintain pressure balance inside and outside the barrel to ensure safety, when the pressure in the barrel rises, the gas should be discharged; when the negative pressure is formed in the barrel, the air outside the barrel should be sucked into the barrel to supplement the space. . However, to achieve this goal, the vent hole of the steel drum is powerless, because it is impossible for someone to specifically open or close the vent hole for it immediately. This is too cumbersome to do. So someone designed a special breathing valve for steel drums instead of vents. As the name suggests, the breathing valve is the breathing apparatus of the steel drum.
This breathing valve is equipped with two valves: a pressure valve and a vacuum valve. The pressure valve is the outlet of the gas in the drum. When the pressure of the gas in the drum increases, the valve opens and the gas in the drum flows into the atmosphere. The vacuum valve is the inlet for air. When a negative pressure is formed in the barrel, the valve opens and the outside air enters the barrel. The breathing valve is a safety device for steel drums, which can keep the steel drums sealed at the same time to prevent the evaporation or leakage of the contents, and it is also conducive to the safety of the steel drums. When the gas space in the barrel changes, there is an automatic adjustment of the gas in and out, adjust the pressure in the barrel to prevent the steel barrel from bursting or buckling deformation and leakage, ensuring the safety of the steel barrel during handling, storage and transportation.
