Naphthalene products include industrial naphthalene and refined naphthalene. According to different coal tar distillation processes, raw materials for industrial naphthalene are naphthalene oil fractions, naphthalene-wash mixed fractions, and phenol naphthalene-washed tri-mix fractions. The extraction process of industrial naphthalene also includes two-furnace twin towers, single furnace single towers, and pressure distillation. The refining rate of industrial naphthalene is ≥97% (naphthalene oil fraction), 96% to 97% (naphthalene wash mixed fraction), and 94% to 95% (phenol naphthalene washes three mixed fractions). The resulting industrial naphthalene product standards see the national standard GB6700-86.
The production methods of refined naphthalene include melt crystallization, hydrorefining, pickling distillation, solvent crystallization, sublimation, and formaldehyde. The quality index of refined naphthalene is shown in GB/T6699-98.
