The pump sleeve of a single screw pump is made of a non-metallic elastic material (usually rubber), and the inner hole is in the shape of a spiral groove, which forms a plurality of sealed chambers with a spiral metal screw. The metal screw is eccentrically rotated to displace the sealed chamber from the low pressure region of the pump to the high pressure region, completing the entire process of inhaling, discharging the liquid and forming pressure. In addition to general media, single-screw pumps can transport suspensions and special media containing metal particles, fibers, and more. When treating sewage and mud, a single screw pump is often used, and the working pressure is usually not high.

The conventional twin-screw pump is a non-strictly sealed screw pump. The pump sleeve made of metal material has two phase-cut cylindrical cavities. The two screws in the cavity mesh with each other. The meshing screw teeth are in the pump sleeve and the screw. A plurality of sealed chambers are formed therebetween. When the screw rotates, the sealed chamber is displaced from the low pressure region of the pump to the high pressure region. There is a single-headed screw and a twin-screw twin-screw pump. For the lubricating medium, if the helix angle is large enough, the main screw can directly drive the auxiliary screw. If equipped with a synchronizing gear, there is theoretically no contact between the two screws. Although the traditional twin-screw pump is not strictly sealed and the working pressure is not high, it can transport a variety of media with a wide range of viscosity, can transport non-Newtonian liquid of various viscosities, and can also be mixed with gas and liquid, solid-liquid mixed. Therefore, all industries have placed great interest in it, especially in the petroleum and chemical industries.

The three-screw pump is theoretically a strictly sealed screw pump. In textbooks, it is usually introduced as a typical example of a screw pump. The three-screw pump is composed of a main screw in the metal pump sleeve and two driven screws. Each screw has two spiral lines, and a plurality of sealed chambers are formed between the pump sleeve and the screw. When the screw rotates, the sealed chamber is displaced from the low pressure region of the pump to the high pressure region. The maximum working pressure of the three-screw pump is up to 30 MPa. The conveying medium is a clean, non-corrosive lubricating oil. In special occasions, it can transport high viscosity and non-corrosive media (such as ink, glue, etc.). Due to the structural dimensions of the three screws 1:3:5 ratio and other reasons, the three-screw pump delivers a limited range of media viscosities and is generally limited to lubricating media.

Five-screw pumps are usually non-rigidly sealed screw pumps. A main screw drives four secondary screws, each having two spirals. Since the unit flow cross section of the pump chamber is large, the medium transport amount is large. The working pressure of the five-screw pump is usually below 0.8 MPa, and is often used in oil pumps for special occasions where the installation size is limited (eg, ships, ships, etc.).
