Scientists from the United States have invented a tunable graphene nanomaterial that has potentially good electrical conductivity and can be used in electronic devices. Related research was published in the Physical Review Letters.
Today, electronic devices are getting smaller and smaller, but scientists predict that the technology is nearing its limits, and without the replacement of silicon technology, smaller electronic devices will not be available. Among them, a reliable alternative is graphene, although it is not a semiconductor, but it can have excellent electrical properties through modification.
A new form of graphene invented by the team led by Vincent Meunier of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is called graphene nanowiggles. The graphene nanotwisting is a different surface structure divided by graphene nanoribbons, each of which can produce good magnetic and electrical conductivity. According to Meunier, the advantage of graphene nanotwisting is that they are extremely easy and fast to produce, and they are long and clean. Through retrofitting, this new material can show unique conductive functions. The Meunier team will further analyze the secrets of new materials to better understand their possible future applications.
