Auxiliary materials refer to the physical and chemical effects on the film-forming substance in the coating composition, which aids in the formation of a high-quality coating film, and also includes some materials that may be used in the coating construction. The amount of these materials is not much, but it has great influence on the performance of the coating and the construction process, such as driers, plasticizers, curing agents, leveling agents, moisture-proof agents, paint removers, etc.
(a) Plasticizers
Plasticizers are materials that increase the flexibility (elasticity) of the paint film, so they are also called plasticizers and softeners. Many oil-free resin lacquers (such as nitrolacquer, vinyl chloride lacquer, etc.) are hard, brittle, and cracked when the coating is dry. Adhesion is not good. The use of plasticizers can change the properties of these paints.
The plasticizer used for coating has a smaller molecule than resin molecules and can be filled in the voids of the resin macromolecules. This can eliminate the binding forces between the resin macromolecules and allow the polymer to have room for movement, thereby increasing the toughness of the paint film.
Plasticizers used for coatings should first be well fused with the film-forming substances of the coatings, and they should be able to be dissolved in solvents, non-volatile, maintain plasticizing properties for a long period of time, and should also have good light and heat resistance. And cold resistance and so on.
Commonly used plasticizers include dibutyl phthalate, tributyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate and castor oil.
Plasticizers are added at the time of paint preparation and are no longer added during construction.
(B) Curing Agent
Some kinds of coatings, some at room temperature in the air can be cured in the film, some need to be cured by heating at high temperatures to form a film, and some need to heat some chemical ingredients in the coating chemical reaction to cure film. These materials that promote film formation are called hardeners.
(c) paint remover
Paint remover is also called paint remover, paint remover or wash paint syrup. It is divided into two kinds: liquid and milky. It is a solution with strong dissolving power and is used to remove waste paint film.
Commonly used paint remover T-1, T-2, and T-3 type, mostly from ketones, alcohols, esters, benzene solvents mixed deployment. In addition, dilute hot alkali solution or normal temperature organic acid solution can also be used as a paint remover.
When using paint remover, apply a long hair soft brush paint remover to the old paint film. Apply a little thicker, let it stand for more than ten minutes (about half an hour in winter). After the paint film is softened and dissolved, you can use a spade blade to remove it gently. If the old paint film is too thick, it can be repeatedly applied several times. All the paint film is de-netted. Before the new paint is applied, the paint remover must be completely removed. The remaining paint remover can be washed with ethanol, benzene or gasoline, otherwise it will affect the gloss and adhesion of the new paint.
Since paint removers are all flammable volatile solvents and may be toxic, they should be ventilated to prevent fire and poisoning.
