Shanghai, May 30: China may have the London Metal Exchange (LME) copper, nickel and aluminum delivery warehouses within the next year or two, which will facilitate China's closer to the world market for copper production and consumption.
LME has appointed a consulting company, Steinweg-Handelsveem BV in the Netherlands, to assess the port of Waigaoqiao in Shanghai as a point of delivery.
PA Govers, president of Steinweg, said: "The three metals, copper, aluminum and nickel, will eventually be approved for delivery at the Waigaoqiao port."
He said: "Many obstacles have been wiped out. Trading in the Waigaoqiao area will be tax-exempt."
Steinweg is building a large number of material facilities and establishing a metal and bulk warehouse in Waigaoqiao.
The company has already operated warehouses in Shanghai, including a joint venture facility approved by the Shanghai Futures Exchange. At the same time, it also has several other facilities in the Chinese port.
