Japan built a space solar power experimental facility

Kyoto University in Japan announced that its researchers have built a space solar power experimental facility. Its purpose is mainly to verify the feasibility of wireless transmission of energy over long distances.

Solar power in space refers to the use of rockets to launch solar panels into space. Solar panels generate electricity in space. The resulting electrical energy is converted into microwaves and transmitted back to the ground and converted back to electrical energy.

The currently completed experimental facility is located on the Uji Campus of Kyoto University. Kyoto University envisages launching an experimental satellite carrying a solar panel with a diameter of 10 meters after 5 to 10 years to achieve a power output capacity of 10 kilowatts.

In order to enter commercial operations, space solar power requires solar panels with a diameter of 2,000 to 3,000 meters, which is equal to the output power of a nuclear reactor equivalent to 1 million kilowatts.
