Ferrite ring speaker magnets
1.Introduction
Ferrite ring speaker magnets are made ofÂ hard ferrites, which have a highÂ coercivityÂ and highÂ remanenceÂ after magnetization. These are composed of iron oxide andÂ bariumÂ orÂ strontiumÂ carbonate. The high coercivity means the materials are very resistant to becoming demagnetized, an essential characteristic for a permanent magnet. They also conductÂ magnetic fluxÂ well and have a highÂ magnetic permeability.Â

Barium ferrite, BaFe12O19Â (BaOÂ·6Fe2O3), a common material for permanent magnet applications. Barium ferrites are robust ceramics that are generally stable to moisture and corrosion-resistant. They are used in e.g.Â subwooferÂ magnets and as a medium forÂ magnetic recording, e.g. onÂ magnetic stripe cards.
